A Branchport woman was arrested early Tuesday after Yates County sheriff’s deputies said she unlawfully entered a home in the town of Potter while the homeowners and their children were asleep, then tried to steal a vehicle from the garage.
Tegan R. Charbonneau, 37, of Branchport, was charged with second-degree burglary, attempted fourth-degree grand larceny and endangering the welfare of a child following the Sept. 8 incident.
Deputies were called to a residence in the town of Potter around 4:26 a.m. for a reported burglary in progress.
Investigators said Charbonneau allegedly entered the residence without permission while the occupants were inside and asleep. She then attempted to take a vehicle from the homeowner’s garage, according to the sheriff’s office.
Charbonneau was later located at her residence and taken into custody.
She was transported to the Yates County Jail to await centralized arraignment proceedings. Deputies also requested an order of protection for the homeowners.
