Schuyler County officials are asking residents, visitors and outdoor users to help shape future educational, recreational and interpretive efforts at the Catharine Creek Wildlife Management Area.
The county and Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce have launched a public opinion survey aimed at gathering feedback from residents, conservationists, outdoor enthusiasts and others with an interest in the protected habitat.
Schuyler County Planning Director Joann Lindstrom said the responses will help officials better understand how people currently use the marsh and what they want prioritized in the future.
“Whether you visit the area daily or simply care about the local ecosystem, the public’s perspective is incredibly valuable to our team,” Lindstrom said.
Survey results will be used to help develop recommendations involving public access points, trail maintenance and wildlife-dependent recreational activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking and birdwatching.
The survey was developed by consulting firm Barton & Loguidice, which is expected to issue a final report later this year.
The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and will remain open to regional residents and visitors through Sept. 18. It is available through the Schuyler County Planning Department, while paper copies can be requested by calling 607-535-8211.
