A year after a judge approved a Diocese of Rochester settlement for childhood sexual abuse survivors, Carol DuPré says her payment brought a sense of validation, according to Spectrum News 1.
DuPré, who was abused by her priest at 15, spent six years involved in litigation before the Sept. 5, 2025, ruling.
Her payment arrived months later than expected, and she used some of the money to secure ownership of her home and help her daughter do the same.
Her attorney, Mitchell Garabedian, represents 97 survivors and said many are still awaiting settlements.
DuPré said the money cannot undo the abuse, but she hopes other survivors find the closure she feels.
