Finger Lakes Community College will mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a live online talk by retired New York City emergency medical technician Sonia Agron, who supported first responders during rescue and recovery efforts after the attacks.
Agron will speak by Zoom at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, as part of the college's History, Culture and Diversity Series. The one-time event will not be recorded, according to an FLCC news release.
The public can find the Zoom link and viewing options on the Finger Lakes TV network through the college's online calendar at flcc.edu/events. Viewing is also available through Roku and Spectrum cable, according to FLCC.
Agron worked in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks at the St. John's Respite Center, where she supported first responders involved in rescue and recovery work. She now speaks for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's 9/11 Institute and serves as a docent at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
For 17 years, Agron has shared her account of 9/11 with student and adult audiences. The 9/11 Institute was created to preserve and share the stories of emergency workers and others who responded to the attacks.
Tunnel to Towers was founded in honor of Stephen Gerard Siller, a firefighter assigned to Brooklyn's Squad 1. Unable to drive through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel after the attack, Siller put 60 pounds of gear on his back and ran through the tunnel to the World Trade Center, where he died while helping others.
The talk, titled “Remembering 9/11: A 25th Anniversary Talk,” is organized by Robert Brown, an FLCC history professor. It is part of the college's ongoing History, Culture and Diversity Series.
