Hobart and William Smith Colleges will host Bank of America Chair and CEO Brian Moynihan later this month as the featured speaker at its annual economic symposium.
The campus event will focus on leadership, changes in the global economy, the future of financial services and the role of businesses in economic opportunity and broader social challenges.
A discussion on business and the economy
The program is formally known as the Anderton Economic Policy Symposium.
Moynihan has served as Bank of America's CEO since 2010 and chair of its board since 2014. The financial institution serves nearly 70 million consumer and business clients in more than 35 countries, according to HWS.
Economics professor Feisal Khan, who administers the symposium, said Moynihan's experience offers students a view of the technological and economic changes affecting the financial sector.
HWS President Mark Gearan said the program is intended to give students direct access to leaders working on economic and public-policy questions. Moynihan participates in several groups focused on business and markets, including the Business Roundtable, Financial Services Forum, Bank Policy Institute and World Economic Forum's International Business Council. He chairs The Clearing House Association and the Sustainable Markets Initiative and co-chairs the American Heart Association CEO Roundtable.
He is also chancellor of the Corporation of Brown University, a volunteer position leading the university's 54-member governing body. He previously served on Brown's Board of Fellows and Board of Trustees.
Symposium began in 2022
Former HWS trustee James F. Anderton IV established the Anderton Economic Policy Symposium in 2022 to bring speakers to campus for discussions with students and the broader HWS community.
Past speakers have included former Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis President Narayana Kocherlakota, Federal Reserve Bank of New York research leader Kartik Athreya and Stanford business professor Anat Admati, whose work has focused on financial regulation and banking stability.
Anderton, a 1965 Hobart graduate, founded the property management and real estate investment and development company Krimson. He also created the Anderton Forum for Global Engagement, a separate HWS program featuring diplomats, scholars and policy specialists.
