Bank of America Chairman and CEO Brian Moynihan will visit Hobart and William Smith Colleges later this month as the featured speaker for the 2026 Anderton Economic Policy Symposium.
The annual event brings business, economic and public policy leaders to the Geneva campus for discussions with students and the broader HWS community. Moynihan is expected to focus on leadership in a changing global economy, the future of financial services and the role businesses play in expanding economic opportunity and responding to broader societal challenges.
Moynihan has served as Bank of America’s CEO since 2010 and chairman of its board since 2014. The company serves nearly 70 million consumer and business clients in more than 35 countries.
HWS President Mark D. Gearan said Moynihan’s experience provides students with an opportunity to examine how major financial institutions are responding to technological, economic and societal change.
“Brian Moynihan brings an extraordinary depth of experience at the intersection of business, economics and public life, and we are delighted to welcome him to HWS,” Gearan said.
Professor of Economics Feisal Khan, who administers the symposium, said Moynihan’s perspective is particularly relevant as financial institutions navigate rapid technological and economic shifts.
“His leadership of one of the world’s largest financial institutions offers a unique vantage point on the changing global economy, the future of financial services and the opportunities and challenges created by technological and economic change,” Khan said.
Moynihan is involved with several national and international organizations focused on business and economic issues, including the Business Roundtable, Financial Services Forum, Bank Policy Institute and World Economic Forum’s International Business Council. He also chairs The Clearing House Association and the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
He serves as chancellor of the Corporation of Brown University, a volunteer role leading the university’s governing corporation. He previously served on Brown’s Board of Fellows and Board of Trustees.
The Anderton Economic Policy Symposium was established in 2022 by former HWS trustee James F. Anderton IV, a 1965 Hobart graduate, to give students and the campus community direct access to prominent voices in economics and public policy.
Previous speakers have included former Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis President Narayana Kocherlakota, Federal Reserve Bank of New York research leader Kartik B. Athreya and Stanford Graduate School of Business professor Anat R. Admati.
Anderton, founder and executive chairman of real estate investment and development company Krimson, served on the HWS Board of Trustees from 1994 to 2000. He also established the Anderton Forum for Global Engagement, which brings diplomats, scholars and policy experts to campus for discussions on international affairs.
