Yankees place Trent Grisham on injured list, recall Jasson Domínguez

The New York Yankees placed center fielder Trent Grisham on the injured list Saturday with a right hamstring strain.

Grisham injured the hamstring during Friday night’s loss to the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. He appeared to tweak it while being caught stealing and later struggled to run down a fly ball hit in front of him.

The injury is to the same hamstring that sidelined Grisham for three weeks in June, although the veteran said Friday that the latest issue was in a different area. Grisham was scheduled to undergo imaging to determine the severity of the strain.

“It’s disappointing, for sure,” Grisham said Friday night. “But that’s part of the game. We know what we’re signing up for. Hopefully it’s nothing too problematic.”

The Yankees recalled Jasson Domínguez on Saturday to fill Grisham’s roster spot, at least until Aaron Judge is able to return from his own injury. Judge could rejoin the team as soon as the upcoming homestand.

Grisham had struggled at the plate in recent weeks, going 4-for-44 with a .414 on-base plus slugging percentage over his previous 14 games. His recent defensive play in center field had also fallen short of his usual standard.

With Grisham sidelined, Spencer Jones is expected to receive the majority of the playing time in center field. Jones has been playing well recently and delivered a go-ahead hit in the 10th inning Friday against Padres closer Mason Miller before San Diego walked off the Yankees.
