Town of Ithaca Supervisor Rod Howe will step down Sept. 19, ending his tenure about 15 months before his term expires, according to The Ithaca Voice.
Howe, who turns 70 on Sept. 21, said there was no health issue behind the decision and that he wants to spend the next chapter of his life pursuing personal interests.
The longtime town official has served in various government roles for more than 25 years and became supervisor in 2019.
Deputy Supervisor Eric Levine has been selected to succeed Howe and serve as supervisor through Dec. 11, 2027.
Howe said he plans to spend more time writing, reading, baking, bicycling, traveling and staying connected with friends after leaving office.
