A $7.7 million water district expansion in Skaneateles is moving forward despite concerns from some neighbors about a planned 98-foot water tower on Bryant Lane, according to The Citizen.
The 150,000-gallon tower is intended to address longstanding water pressure and firefighting capacity problems that resulted in state Department of Health citations in 2013.
Some nearby residents have questioned the tower’s visibility, final location and height, arguing a recent balloon test didn’t adequately demonstrate its impact and saying they weren’t properly informed as plans changed.
Town Supervisor Chris Legg said the project has been discussed publicly, the earlier tower location was only conceptual and the final site avoided additional infrastructure costs and impacts to agricultural land.
Construction is underway, with the expanded system expected to be ready for commissioning in August 2027 after more than 25 years of planning.
