The Livingston County Board of Supervisors has appointed Sarah A. Macauley as the county's new deputy county administrator, placing a longtime health-system finance and grants manager in a senior county government role.
Macauley will work with the board and County Administrator Shannon Hillier on the county budget and finances, coordination across departments, and major initiatives involving health care and workforce development.
Macauley joins the county after 15 years with University of Rochester Medicine. Much of her career there was spent as finance manager for Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, one of three organ procurement organizations in Upstate New York.
In that position, Macauley said she managed the network's budget, reporting, financial compliance and planning. She described the work as financially complex and said the organization's mission made the role personally rewarding.
Most recently, Macauley served as senior manager of grants management in the University of Rochester's Pulmonary and Critical Care research administration. The job involved navigating financial logistics and pursuing state, federal and private funding needed to support research projects.
Hillier said Macauley's procurement and accounting experience made her an ideal choice for the position. He also cited her understanding of the people served by county government.
Macauley is a longtime Livingston County resident and the spouse of a fourth-generation farmer. She said the appointment gives her a chance to apply her professional experience to the community where she lives and to take part in its day-to-day work.
She also pointed to local festivals, Letchworth and her family's farm as parts of the county she values. Macauley said she looks forward to joining an organization with a long record of community service and hopes to leave the county better than she found it.
The appointment adds experience in budgeting, compliance, grant funding and health-related administration to the county's management team. Those skills will be used across routine financial oversight and broader initiatives identified by county leaders.
Livingston County was founded in 1821 and has more than 61,000 residents across 17 towns and 631 square miles of the Finger Lakes region.
