An Auburn man faces obstruction, resisting arrest and traffic charges after deputies said he fled an attempted e-bike stop while carrying a small child on a one-seat bicycle.
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said a deputy tried to stop the e-bike around 10:09 p.m. Aug. 26 near State Street and Olympia Avenue because it was being operated on the wrong side of the road with two people aboard.
Deputies said the rider refused an order to pull over, turned into the Brogan Manor Apartments and fled from the deputy.
The deputy later found the rider in front of an apartment, where investigators said he acknowledged operating the e-bike but repeatedly refused to provide identification.
Giovanni Andres Serrano Serrano, 36, was taken into custody around 10:19 p.m. after allegedly pulling his arms away multiple times during the arrest, according to the sheriff's office.
Serrano was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, carrying too many people on a bicycle, failing to keep right on an e-bike and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
He was processed at the Public Safety Building and issued tickets returnable Aug. 31 in Auburn City Court.
