New York state landmarks will be illuminated pink and flags at state buildings will fly at half-staff in honor of feminist leader Gloria Steinem, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.
The tribute was scheduled for Thursday night, Sept. 3, and will be repeated on the day of Steinem's funeral.
Hochul said Steinem inspired generations, broke barriers and expanded what women believed was possible.
The governor's release said 16 landmarks would participate. Locations named in the release included the Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal and the State Fairgrounds' Main Gate and Expo Center.
Other listed sites included the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, H. Carl McCall SUNY Building, Alfred E. Smith State Office Building, Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge, Grand Central Terminal's Pershing Square Viaduct and the Long Island Rail Road's East End Gateway at Penn Station.
