Federal disaster assistance has been approved for recovery work in nine Missouri counties affected by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding from July 9 through July 11.
FEMA said public assistance funding will be available to state, tribal and eligible local governments, along with certain private nonprofit organizations, on a cost-sharing basis.
The aid may be used for emergency work and for repair or replacement of damaged public facilities in Bollinger, Crawford, Iron, Madison, Morgan, Reynolds, Ripley, Washington and Wayne counties.
FEMA named Catherine O. Fan as the federal coordinating officer for recovery operations in the affected areas.
Additional counties or forms of assistance could be designated later if further damage assessments show they are warranted, the agency said.
The announcement applies to public recovery costs and did not identify individual assistance for homeowners or renters.
