An Auburn man was charged with misdemeanor drug possession after a Cayuga County sheriff's deputy reported finding psilocybin mushrooms during a traffic stop, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies said Isaiah Sanchez-Delvalle, 20, was arrested at about 6:50 p.m. Aug. 29 and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and additional vehicle and traffic violations.
A deputy assigned to the Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative stopped the vehicle on Grant Avenue Road in Auburn about five minutes earlier after observing that it had no front license plate, the sheriff's office said.
The deputy searched the vehicle during the investigation and allegedly found a controlled substance identified as psilocybin mushrooms. Sanchez-Delvalle was identified as the driver and sole occupant.
Members of the Auburn Police Department's GIVE Unit assisted the deputy with the investigation.
Sanchez-Delvalle was taken to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office for processing and released on an appearance ticket returnable to Auburn City Court at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.
