Nine pharmaceutical manufacturers have reached agreements with the Trump administration to offer lower prices to state Medicaid programs, bringing the number of companies covered by the initiative to 26.
The White House said Monday that Alcon, Astellas Pharma, BeOne Medicines, BridgeBio, CSL, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharma, Teva Pharmaceuticals and UCB agreed to pricing tied to the lowest amounts paid in other developed nations. The administration says the deals now cover 89% of the branded drug market.
The medicines covered by the new agreements treat conditions including cancer, Parkinson's disease, hemophilia, glaucoma and liver disease. The White House estimated the agreements will save Medicaid programs billions of dollars, though it did not provide company-by-company price details.
The manufacturers also committed at least $19.6 billion in near-term U.S. manufacturing investment. Several companies agreed to contribute ingredients used in antibiotics, seizure medication, blood-pressure treatment and transplant medicine to a federal reserve.
