Drug overdose deaths in New York fell about 45% from 2022 to 2025, dropping from more than 6,630 to an estimated 3,775, Gov. Kathy Hochul's office said Monday.
The figures, compiled from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, amount to a decline from about 18 deaths per day to about 10. State officials highlighted the change on International Overdose Awareness Day.
New York has made nearly $500 million in opioid settlement funds available since fiscal 2023 for prevention, treatment, harm reduction and recovery programs. The state said it has shipped more than 1.4 million naloxone kits to registered programs since August 2022.
