Seneca County officials are moving toward providing $90,000 to the Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes after the organization lost state funding, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The county Health and Human Services Committee approved the funding plan Tuesday, but the full Board of Supervisors must still consider it in September.
The center, which serves child sexual abuse victims in Seneca, Ontario and Yates counties, could be forced to close Oct. 1 without additional funding.
Social Services Commissioner Michael Whirtley said losing the center would require counties to provide mandated victim services themselves, increasing workloads and potentially creating significant costs.
The center handles an average of 114 cases annually, and Seneca County officials are seeking information about possible contributions from Ontario and Yates counties before the September vote.
