A regional firearms training facility in Bath has been named for retired village police Sgt. Les Brown, honoring his two decades of work building and overseeing the range.
Members of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Bath Village Police Department and Bath VA Police gathered Aug. 26 at the Bath Rod and Gun Club to dedicate the facility as the Sergeant Lester Brown Law Enforcement Range.
Brown and Sheriff Tweddell applied for and received a New York state grant in 2006 to create a regional firearms training facility for law enforcement, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Brown then partnered with the Bath Rod and Gun Club to build the training center from the ground up. The Sheriff’s Office said Brown remains in charge of the facility after his retirement.
Officials presented Brown with a plaque during the dedication in recognition of his work in law enforcement training.
