The 2026 FIFA World Cup generated an estimated $3.5 billion in economic activity across New York and New Jersey, according to a state-commissioned report released by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The Tourism Economics study estimated $1.9 billion in direct spending, 27,424 full- and part-time jobs, $1.4 billion in labor income and $414.2 million in state and local tax revenue.
More than 645,000 fans attended eight matches at the New York-New Jersey stadium, including the final, while 626,300 nonlocal visitors participated in other World Cup-related activities.
The report attributed about $653 million in direct spending to lodging, $346 million to food and beverages, $264 million to retail, $200 million to transportation and $195 million to recreation and entertainment.
The final estimate exceeded the region's earlier $3.3 billion projection. The figures reflect modeled economic impacts and were announced by the governor's office.
