President Donald Trump proclaimed Aug. 26 a national day of remembrance marking five years since the bombing at Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The Aug. 26, 2021, ISIS-K attack killed 13 U.S. service members, wounded 45 others and injured more than 160 civilians during the American evacuation from Afghanistan.
The proclamation honors the service members by name and asks Americans to remember their sacrifice and support Gold Star families.
Trump also used the document to criticize the Biden administration's handling of the withdrawal and to describe his administration's response to the attack.
The commemorative designation applies to Aug. 26, 2026, the fifth anniversary of the bombing.
