A Buffalo man on federal supervised release has been charged with possessing firearms following a North Tonawanda traffic stop, prosecutors said.
Gerald Harper, 31, is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if he is convicted.
According to a federal complaint, police stopped Harper's vehicle Aug. 13 for a suspended registration and found about $7,055 in cash, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Because Harper remained on supervised release after a 2023 federal cocaine conviction, investigators searched his home and found two firearms and ammunition, prosecutors said.
Harper was detained after an initial court appearance. The charge is an accusation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
