A Broome County man was sentenced Aug. 5 to 12 months and one day in federal prison for knowingly failing to register as a sex offender after returning to New York from Texas, federal prosecutors said.
Gerard Reilly Jr., 59, of Kirkwood, will also serve five years of supervised release and must continue registering as a sex offender after leaving prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York.
Reilly previously admitted that he was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in Broome County Court in May 2006 and sentenced to five years in state prison. That conviction required him to register under federal and state law in any state where he lived after his release.
Prosecutors said Reilly notified New York authorities in April 2024 that he had moved to Texas, then returned to New York in August 2024. He lived in the state until his arrest in October 2025 without registering, according to his plea.
U.S. District Judge Elizabeth C. Coombe imposed the sentence. The U.S. Marshals Service investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian LaRochelle prosecuted it as part of Project Safe Childhood.
