A Waterloo woman faces aggravated DWI charges after Penn Yan police found a damaged vehicle running and unoccupied in the Elm Street business district.
Marissa F. Russell, 21, was arrested following the Aug. 23 crash investigation and charged with DWI, aggravated DWI for having a blood alcohol content of 0.18% or higher, and moving from a lane unsafely.
Police said the vehicle had extensive damage to its front passenger-side tire when officers found it in the middle of the business district with the engine still running.
Officers located Russell near the scene. Police said she acknowledged driving alone and told officers she struck a curb, damaging the vehicle.
Police reported that Russell showed signs of intoxication, including glossy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. She was given standardized field sobriety tests and subsequently taken into custody.
Russell was transported to the Yates County Jail, where police said she voluntarily submitted to a chemical breath test that showed a 0.18% blood alcohol content.
She was issued traffic tickets and released to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
