A 21-year-old Wolcott man was killed Tuesday morning after his motorcycle crossed into the opposite lane on Route 8 in Herkimer County and collided with a tractor-trailer, according to New York State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash in the town of Ohio at about 9:30 a.m. Investigators said the man was traveling north on a 2026 Yamaha motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve.
Police said the motorcycle entered the southbound lane and struck a tractor-trailer driven by James Day, 47, of Ontario, Canada. The motorcycle then left the roadway and hit a tree.
The motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police said a drug recognition expert evaluated Day and determined he was not impaired.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
