More than 200 nurses at Auburn Community Hospital will hold an informational picket Wednesday after contract negotiations failed to produce a new agreement, according to The Citizen.
The nurses, represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, have been negotiating with the hospital since June after their previous contract expired July 31 and was temporarily extended.
The picket is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. outside the hospital and will involve off-duty nurses, with no work stoppage or interruption to patient care.
Union priorities include higher wages for licensed practical nurses, broader wage increases, improved on-call and charge pay, and continued access to affordable health insurance.
The union says competitive pay is necessary to recruit and retain nurses as other healthcare employers in Central New York offer higher wages.
