Two Rochester residents were seriously injured Sunday after a vehicle left Route 63 in Wayland, crossed the opposite lane and struck several trees and a home, according to New York State Police.
Liz D. Maldonado, 23, was driving a 2020 Honda east on West Naples Street at about 2:42 p.m. when police said the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the westbound lane and left the roadway. The vehicle then struck multiple trees and a residence before coming to rest.
Maldonado was taken to Noyes Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, Evelyne Y. Maldonado, 23, also of Rochester, was transported directly to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
State police said the driver was not wearing a seat belt, while the passenger was wearing one.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing. State police said investigators are examining the circumstances leading up to the crash, including reports of reckless driving before the collision.
