JJ Courcy took the lead on Lap 3 and held off Tyler Bushey over the closing laps to earn his first career DIRTcar Pro Stock Series win during SummerFAST at Brewerton Speedway.
The Mexico, New York, driver started third in the 21-car field and passed pole-sitter Jason Casey coming out of Turn 2. Courcy stayed in front for the remainder of the 30-lap feature.
Bushey, who started 13th, reached Courcy's rear bumper with five laps remaining. He pressured Courcy through the finish but settled for second when Courcy completed the final lap without making a mistake.
Courcy said the win carried special meaning because he grew up attending races at Brewerton Speedway. He compared its importance to winning at Super DIRT Week.
He also dedicated the result to his wife, who helped prepare the car and encouraged him to race it after health issues kept her from driving. The car carries "mast cell" lettering in recognition of those health issues.
Casey finished third after leading the opening two laps. Bastien Caron placed fourth and Dakota Sharp finished fifth.
The DIRTcar Pro Stock Series is scheduled to continue with a Capital Region doubleheader at Lebanon Valley Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 22, and Glen Ridge Motorsports Park on Sunday, Aug. 23.
