Bath man charged after two break-ins at convenience store

A Bath man faces felony charges after police said he was connected to two separate break-ins at the same village convenience store less than a week apart.

Ezra S. Wensel, 25, was arrested early Sunday after Bath police responded at about 1:29 a.m. to another reported break-in at the Harash Stop convenience store at 114 West Morris St. Officers arrived quickly, began searching for a suspect and located Wensel during their investigation, police said.

The same store had been burglarized at about 4:28 a.m. Aug. 10. Police said the door was damaged and merchandise was stolen during that incident, but officers were unable to locate the person seen in surveillance footage at the time.

Police said their investigation following the Aug. 16 break-in determined Wensel was responsible for both incidents.

Wensel was charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony; second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony; and possession of burglar tools, a Class A misdemeanor.

He was transported to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment and held on bail.
