Geneva is seeking a $500,000 state grant to help cover the estimated $800,000 cost of demolishing Building C at the Geneva Enterprise Development Center, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
City Council has already set aside $300,000 for the project and declared the property blighted to support an application through the state Community Development Block Grant program.
The condemned building is owned by the Geneva Industrial Development Agency, but city officials said Geneva is responsible for demolition costs because it leases the property.
The IDA has limited cash reserves and is not expected to be able to cover the remaining cost, which includes asbestos removal.
A public hearing on the grant application is scheduled for Aug. 18 before the city submits its request for state funding.
