A 13-year-old Bath resident has been charged with two felonies after police said he made a false 911 report claiming an armed man was threatening to shoot people at a village residence.
Bath police, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police responded around 9:26 p.m. Aug. 10 to a home on Shannon Street after receiving a report that a man had shot his spouse and was threatening to shoot others.
Officers investigated the report and determined it was false, according to the Bath Police Department. No shooting had taken place.
Investigators later identified the 911 caller as a 13-year-old village resident.
The juvenile, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was arrested Aug. 13 and charged with reckless endangerment, a Class D felony, and falsely reporting an incident, a Class E felony.
Police did not provide additional information about what led to the false report or whether the residence or people involved were specifically targeted.
The teen and his guardian were released on an appearance ticket and are scheduled to appear before Steuben County Probation at a later date.
