Tick-borne illnesses in Ontario County rose from 62 cases in 2017 to 337 in 2025, according to the Canandaigua Messenger. County health officials said cases are trending 40% higher this year to date than last year.
The figures were presented to a Canandaigua City Council environmental committee by Matt Hanggi of Ontario County Public Health.
Officials said the county is seeing more than Lyme disease, including anaplasmosis, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis and Powassan encephalitis.
The city committee and county health department have been giving presentations and posting awareness signs in high-traffic locations.
Officials said education, school outreach, hotspot identification and tick collection work with Finger Lakes Community College will continue.
