New York's Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council will hold a public hearing Aug. 18 in Albany to discuss its anti-poverty work and hear from residents about household expenses and the interventions they believe would help most.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. at The Love Albany Center, 8 Kate St., according to the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
Attendees may deliver formal verbal statements, submit written responses or do both. Speakers are asked to limit verbal comments to two or three minutes so everyone has an opportunity to participate, and feedback sheets will be available for written comments.
Registration is encouraged but not required to attend or offer a statement. People who register with an email address will receive a reminder with hearing details several days before the event.
Food will be provided, and Spanish and American Sign Language interpretation will be available. Children may attend, and organizers said children's activities will be offered.
OTDA plans to webcast the hearing in real time, but the session will not support virtual participation. The hearing will be hosted by council co-chair and OTDA Commissioner Barbara C. Guinn with council member Kate Breslin.
The council said statements and written feedback from New Yorkers will continue to inform its anti-poverty work, including recommendations aimed at reducing child poverty and improving access to programs. Registration and live webcast information are available through OTDA's website.
