Ontario County will break ground Monday on a $24 million culinary arts center planned for the Canandaigua lakefront, marking the start of construction on a shared home for several regional food and agriculture programs.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 10 at 150 Lakeshore Drive, directly across from Kershaw Park. It was rescheduled from July 28 because of inclement weather, according to a county media alert.
The planned 19,287-square-foot building will bring the Finger Lakes Community College Culinary Arts Program and New York Kitchen under one roof. It will also include offices for programs operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County.
County officials said the facility is intended to serve as a year-round destination for culinary education in the Finger Lakes. Completion is expected in 2027.
Funding is being provided by the State University of New York, the Sands Family Foundation, the Canandaigua Area Development Corporation and other project stakeholders, according to the county.
Representatives from Ontario County, Empire State Development, SUNY, FLCC, New York Kitchen, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the city of Canandaigua, LeChase Construction, the development corporation and the Sands Family Foundation are expected to participate in the groundbreaking.
