Ithaca’s default citywide speed limit will drop from 30 mph to 25 mph once 116 new signs are installed this fall, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The Common Council approved the change in December 2022, but the city had not implemented it because funding for replacement signs was not initially allocated.
City officials approved the sign order Aug. 5, with installation expected within four to eight weeks at a cost of $19,124.
The new limit will take effect as each sign is installed, though state-owned roads such as Route 13 may retain higher limits and some areas could remain lower.
Mayor Robert Cantelmo said the city recently secured funding to finally carry out the long-delayed change.
