Environmental activist Yvonne Taylor joins Josh Durso on this episode of In Focus for a conversation about advocacy, persistence and what it takes to turn concern into action.
Taylor launched Gas Free Seneca in 2011 during the fight over a proposed gas storage project near Seneca Lake. The organization later became Seneca Lake Guardian, which has remained active on issues involving landfills, incinerators, data centers, energy development and other environmental concerns across the Finger Lakes and Upstate New York.
Taylor discusses the day-to-day work behind environmental activism, the victories and setbacks that come with it, and what has kept her engaged for more than a decade. The conversation also looks beyond individual environmental disputes to a broader question: What can communities learn from people who are willing to consistently organize and work toward the outcomes they want to see?
