Cayuga Community College welcomed 14 incoming Educational Opportunity Program students for a summer orientation designed to introduce them to residential college life before fall classes.
The Arthur O. Eve program provides academic and financial support for students from low-income backgrounds who may not have received sufficient academic preparation in high school. Many participants are the first in their families to attend college.
Cayuga launched its EOP program during the 2022-23 academic year and now has 35 enrolled students. The college said participants have served as commencement speakers and received statewide student awards.
Statewide EOP enrollment has increased 21% since 2022, according to the college. More than 9,000 students participate across the State University of New York system.
The state budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year included a $10.7 million increase in EOP funding.
