The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting candidates for both road patrol and custody deputy positions, with separate civil service processes and application deadlines scheduled over the next several weeks.
Applicants interested in becoming a deputy sheriff for road patrol have until Sept. 23 to apply for an Oct. 17 civil service exam, while candidates for deputy sheriff-custody must apply by 4 p.m. Aug. 12.
The road patrol position lists a salary range of $67,037 to $84,261, plus overtime.
Benefits include a 20-year retirement plan, shift differential, longevity pay, 10 to 21 vacation days, personal leave, health and dental insurance, a flexible spending plan and deferred compensation.
The written examination for those positions is scheduled for Oct. 17.
The custody hiring process uses an online training and experience questionnaire rather than a traditional written exam.
Approved applicants for deputy sheriff-custody must complete that questionnaire between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30. The exam is listed as OC# 60069-240.
The custody application carries a nonrefundable $25 fee.

The Sheriff’s Office did not list a salary range for the custody position in the announcement.
Both recruitment notices direct applicants to the Cayuga County Civil Service employment portal for full job descriptions and applications.
