Finger Lakes Community College student Geoff Hellauer-Geiger of Geneva will serve as the college's student trustee for the 2026-27 academic year.
Hellauer-Geiger, a smart systems technologies major, will join FLCC's 10-member Board of Trustees with full voting rights. Students elect a trustee each spring to serve during the following academic year.
Hellauer-Geiger enrolled at FLCC in fall 2025 through SUNY Reconnect, a program that covers educational expenses for adults ages 25 to 55 who enroll in high-demand programs.
The smart systems technologies program prepares students to work in manufacturing settings that use automation, robotics and other advanced technologies. Hellauer-Geiger said site visits have helped him understand how those systems operate and what career opportunities they offer.
He said the program has been challenging while building his knowledge and confidence. His experience returning to college as an older student also motivated him to seek the trustee position.
Hellauer-Geiger said he wants to highlight how FLCC supports nontraditional students and encourage other adults considering college to use the school's resources and available opportunities.
