A solar farm in Aurelius is suing the town to reduce its property tax assessment by more than $5 million, according to The Citizen.
The company argues the project qualifies for a 15-year exemption under state law because construction began before Cayuga County opted out of the benefit in August 2023.
The four parcels are currently assessed at a combined $5,910,056.
The lawsuit seeks to lower the county assessment by $5,118,556, leaving the properties with a total assessed value of $791,500.
The case was filed in state Supreme Court in Cayuga County and remains pending.
