Cayuga County will host a full weekend of community events Aug. 7-9, including bathtub races at Fillmore Glen State Park, music and cultural programs across Auburn and the Great Race at Emerson Park.
Fillmore Days and the Bathtub Races begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the state park, 1686 Route 38 in Moravia. Gates, vendors and family activities will open at 10 a.m., with the Parade of Tubs scheduled for 1 p.m. before the races and awards.
The annual celebration honors Moravia native President Millard Fillmore and the well-known bathtub hoax associated with him. Teams will race creatively decorated bathtubs on wheels through the park.
Auburn Summer Homecoming Weekend runs Friday through Sunday at locations including downtown Auburn, the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center, the West End Arts Campus, Willard Memorial Chapel and Emerson Park.
Music on the Mall is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the State Street Bandshell in downtown Auburn. Saturday's schedule includes the Downtown Auburn Saturday Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting at Willard Memorial Chapel and a Purple Lancers performance at noon.
The weekend concludes with the Great Race at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Emerson Park, where teams of runners, bicyclists and paddlers will compete.
