The Yates County History Center will host three events in September and October, including a cemetery tour, a golf fundraiser and a bus tour marking the 250th anniversary of the Society of Universal Friends.
The schedule begins at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 with the annual Walk Through History cemetery tour at City Hill Cemetery in Penn Yan. This year's program will feature the Public Universal Friend and followers recounting their lives at what the center describes as Yates County's oldest non-Native burial ground.
Admission to the roughly one-hour cemetery tour is $10 per person or $20 for a family of up to five. Parking is free, and organizers advise participants to wear comfortable shoes because the route crosses uneven surfaces.
The Tee Up for History annual golf tournament is scheduled for Sept. 21 at Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
The tournament costs $440 for a four-person team and includes food, 18 holes of golf with a cart, on-course contests and a player gift. Teams and sponsors are still being sought, and the registration deadline is Aug. 31. Proceeds will support the History Center and its programs.
The final event, On the Trail of the Friend, is set for Oct. 3 and will take participants by bus to Yates County sites associated with the Society of Universal Friends. Lunch will be served at Penn Yan Methodist Church before the bus departs at 1 p.m. for an approximately 90-minute tour.
Tickets for the bus tour are $50 per person and include lunch. Some optional walking will be available at the sites, and seating is limited.
