As the factory-built off-road segment heats up, Toyota is sharpening its full-size pickup. The updated 2027 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro arrives with more specialized suspension hardware, a tougher appearance, and improved cabin technology. These changes position it as a stronger rival to the 2026 Ford F-150 Tremor, which remains one of the most capable trail-focused trucks below the extreme Raptor level.
Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Off-Road Upgrades
The biggest Toyota Tundra TRD Pro off-road upgrade is a new set of Tundra-tuned, enhanced FOX Q3S shocks. Toyota says these adjustable shocks are engineered to improve stability, control, and overall feel across rough terrain. Drivers can prepare the suspension for changing conditions, including rocky trails, loose sand, and uneven back roads. Standard red tow hooks add useful recovery equipment, while the new Honeycomb exterior color gives the truck a more distinctive identity.
Purpose-Built TRD Pro Hardware
The TRD Pro continues as the most off-road-focused version of the Tundra. Toyota has also upgraded the grille-mounted LED light bar for brighter output, while available Rigid fog lights can improve visibility in darkness, dust, or poor weather.
The wider Tundra lineup receives a redesigned front end with a more upright shape, rectangular fog lights, and rugged hexagonal grille treatments. These styling changes give the TRD Pro a stronger road presence without making its design feel excessive.
How It Compares to the Ford F-150 Tremor
Ford’s F-150 Tremor still presents a serious challenge. The 2026 model uses 33-inch all-terrain tires, an off-road-tuned front and rear suspension, 1.7-inch twin-tube dampers, Rock Crawl mode, and Ford Trail Control. It also includes a 3.73 electronic locking rear axle, while a front Torsen limited-slip differential is available for added traction.
The Tremor offers a standard 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 and an available 5.0-liter V8 producing 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Toyota has not yet released complete 2027 Tundra specifications or pricing, so a full value comparison will need to wait until additional details arrive in fall 2026.
Technology Strengthens the Tundra Package
Every 2027 Tundra receives a standard 14-inch multimedia screen, updated voice controls, 5G connectivity, and a built-in drive recorder dash camera. Toyota Safety Sense is also standard. These upgrades matter because buyers increasingly expect an off-road truck to provide comfort, safety, and connected features alongside trail capability.
With adjustable FOX shocks and a more modern cabin, the Tundra TRD Pro is becoming a more focused alternative to the F-150 Tremor. Ford still offers strong powertrain choices and proven trail technology, but Toyota’s latest changes make this full-size off-road rivalry considerably more competitive.
