An Ovid woman faces six felony animal cruelty charges after deputies said six dogs were found dead and seven other animals needed immediate veterinary care at a residence.
The Seneca County Sheriff's Office arrested Mary Dewey, 63, on July 28 and charged her with six counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and seven counts of failure to provide sustenance.
Deputies said they responded to the residence July 9 and found seven animals in extremely poor health and living conditions. Investigators alleged Dewey failed to provide the animals with proper sustenance.
The Sheriff's Office seized three cats and four dogs that were still alive. Deputies also collected six deceased dogs from the property.
Dewey was released with an appearance ticket and is expected to answer the charges at a later date. The Sheriff's Office said the Greater Cayuga County SPCA assisted with the case.
