New York state plans to replace the leaking Dryden Lake dam after years of local pressure, according to The Tompkins Weekly. Town officials said the project could go out to bid before the end of the year.
Dryden Deputy Supervisor Dan Lamb estimated the replacement will cost about $3 million.
The DEC announced July 13 that it is moving forward with the work after the town and community members raised concerns about leaks and falling lake levels.
Local officials said Dryden Lake supports recreation, wildlife habitat, fishing, birds, and nearby properties.
The town also plans to ask the DEC about a temporary fix while the larger replacement project moves forward.
