A woman was critically injured after a volunteer firefighter driving to the Solvay fire station struck her in the town of Geddes, according to WSYR.
The firefighter was traveling in his personal vehicle to join a response to a garage fire when the crash occurred at South Terry and West Granger roads.
The woman was hospitalized in a coma, while the driver called 911 and provided emergency medical treatment at the scene.
The firefighter, who also works for the Syracuse Fire Department, was suspended from that job pending the outcome of the investigation.
Deputies said the driver was not impaired, but investigators are reviewing possible surveillance video and data from the vehicle.
