Tompkins County Finance Director Darrel Tuttle will resign effective Aug. 20 after serving in the position for just over a year, according to The Ithaca Voice.
Tuttle announced his departure Tuesday as county officials work to close a projected $9.8 million budget deficit.
Maintaining current services would require a 17% property tax levy increase, though officials have said they will not pursue an increase that large.
County Administrator Korsah Akumfi said a permanent replacement is unlikely to be hired before Tuttle leaves, making an interim leadership arrangement possible.
Officials said they will work with Tuttle to keep financial operations and development of the 2027 county budget on schedule during the transition.
