Why Tenisha Warner Took Legal Action
Court documents show Tenisha Warner and Malcolm-Jamal Warner signed a prenuptial agreement in May 2022 before their wedding. The agreement reportedly required Warner to have a $1 million life insurance policy with his wife as beneficiary.
The suit claims the insurance policy was never obtained and that other financial obligations referenced in the agreement were never fulfilled either. Those unpaid debts, says Tenisha Warner, make her a creditor of his estate.
The claim allegedly includes several sums of money
The suit names Pamela Warner, the mother of Warner and successor trustee of the Warner Family Trust. Warner said Tenisha’s late husband’s estate may not have sufficient assets to satisfy the claims, so the trust should be able to help satisfy the financial obligations.
The trust was created in 1996, before Warner’s marriage and before the birth of his daughter. Malcolm-Jamal Warner was in the process of updating his estate plan to take care of his wife and their child, but died before the changes were made, said Tenisha Warner.
The star has previously said she tried to sort things out amicably before resorting to the law and that the lawsuit was necessary to protect her future and her daughter’s.
