Dryden residents are asking town officials to push for more traffic warning signs along Slaterville Road to protect children near school bus stops, according to The Tompkins Weekly. Fifteen residents signed a petition June 23 calling for bus stop and children-at-play signs near Brooktondale and Besemer Hill Road.
The petition said drivers have passed stopped school buses and exceeded the 45 mph speed limit in the area.
Residents said children who attend Caroline Elementary School and East Ithaca preschool use stops along the corridor.
At its July 9 meeting, the Dryden Town Board unanimously agreed to ask the state Department of Transportation to review the area for signage.
Town officials said the state must determine whether warning signs are warranted because Slaterville Road is part of Route 79.
