Second Lyons man charged in June attack, robbery investigation

A 29-year-old Lyons man was arrested on robbery, assault and other charges connected to an alleged June attack on Spencer Street, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies allege Michael J. Gilpin, aided by two other people, struck and choked a person, ripped the person’s shirt and forcibly took a phone while the person was trying to call 911 on June 10.

Gilpin was charged with second-degree robbery, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, criminal obstruction of breathing, third-degree assault and fourth-degree grand larceny.

He was arrested at the Wayne County Jail, where he was being held on unrelated charges, and remained in custody pending centralized arraignment.
