A 31-year-old Canandaigua man faces five charges after authorities said he strangled his girlfriend, damaged property, and punched an Ontario County sheriff’s deputy during a domestic incident.
Leondis Phillip Caver was arrested Saturday night at a Creekview Drive residence in the town of Canandaigua, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Caver was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, third-degree criminal mischief, aggravated family offense and obstructing governmental administration.
Investigators alleged Caver strangled his girlfriend and damaged a toilet and television. While being detained for further investigation, Caver physically resisted law enforcement and punched a deputy in the right side of the head with a closed fist, causing substantial pain, the sheriff’s office said.
Caver was taken to the Ontario County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
